Kingfisher Wall hanging

The kingfisher wall hanging follows the water theme Under the Sea,which we did two years ago. This time, we have taken inspiration from the beautiful colours of the kingfisher in all its glory.  We have used some textured fabrics to add depth to the overall effect adding a slight shimmer to the bird's tail.

The picture is not quite finished but the design features the kingfisher on a branch over the river, surrounded by the flowers and bullrushes.  Quality of fabric is crucial in making the whole design come alive,  adding to the overall effect; complete the design using black thread and free motion around the applique shapes to add definition,  beads, ribbon and wool create the movement of the river.

On the day  you will learn

• Painting onto fabrics using the mixed media paints
• Use a stencil for the grasses in the background to create a hedgerow
• Layered applique
• Free motion stitching
• Use a couching foot to add wool, & ribbon
• Hand Stitching beads and sequins
• Use a template design

All materials are included in this class.

The class is 10am - 4pm.

It is essential to have a sewing machine with the facility to drop the feed dog and a darning foot. Alternatively Brother machines are available to hire from The Quilt Cabin , Cost 5.00 GBP per session please ask on booking

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served throughout the day, you may want to bring a packed lunch.
