French Braid Quilt

French Braid Quilt

A French braid quilt is a design that resembles intricate, woven appreance of a traditional french braid hairstyle.  It features strips of fabric sewn in a way that creates a series of diagional lines that appear to intertwine, forming a flowing elegant braid pattern across the quilt. This quilt style is both visually stunning and versatile, as it can be made in various sizes from small wall hangings to large bed quilts

Like a Bargello quilt colour gradients or transitions are often used in French braid quilts.  The strips can gradually transition from light to dark shades or shift between different colours to emphasize the woven effect. Alternatively use contrasting fabrics fro a bold, dramtic look.

Most of the cutting involves strips and rectangles, so it goes together quickly, always with a quarter-inch seam allowance. We have put together this one-day class to start you on your French braid journey.  We have used two separators and five columns, but you can increase the size of the quilt by adding more columns or repeating the braid run.

The quilt measures 60” x 58”

On this one day class you will learn

  • How to choose colour gradients or contrasting fabrics
